Cosmetic Surgery

More and more men and women of different ages and social status are relying on cosmetic surgery to enhance their physical appearance. Cosmetic surgery, also called plastic surgery, is primarily concerned in aesthetic reconstruction and alteration of body parts for beautification processes. It may be performed for patients who have experienced accidents, or for those who want to improve their appearance.

Although there are many other reasons why a person would be interested in cosmetic surgery, the cosmetic surgeon usually talks with patients to give a detailed consultation before any operation is done. The cosmetic surgeon gives the pros and cons of the operation—the cost and any effect, both good and bad, that the operation may bring.

Some of the more popular cosmetic surgery procedures done all over the world are the following:

  • Abdominoplasty, also called tummy tuck – involves shaping and firming of the abdominal area
  • Breast augmentation – involves implantation of saline or silicone gel prosthetics to increase breast size; it also includes breast reduction
  • Buttocks augmentation – involves implantation on buttocks to enhance shape and size
  • Rhinoplasty – involves reshaping and reconstruction of the nose
  • Lipectomy, also called liposuction – involves removal of fat in certain body areas
  • Injection of dermal fillers – involves injection of collagen, hyaluronic acid, fat, Botox, and others to create a youthful appearance
  • Skin-related procedures – such as micropeel, microdermabrasion, and others to improve skin complexion

Before you undergo any cosmetic surgery procedure, it is best that you have understood both the positive and negative effects it may have on your body. Cosmetic surgery is not a perfect field, so be prepared to understand that there are risks and complications involved. As such, it would also be wise to choose the surgeon who will perform it for you. The surgeon you choose should have a good reputation and a high experience level. It would not be wise to risk your life with a cheap or inexperienced surgeon, all for the sake of beauty.
